Farm Trophies, LL Rune and Drops. 
One of the first things you should strive for in the game is to complete your farm trophies.  These will have a direct relation on the amount of "drops" you get when harvesting on your farm.  There are two types of drops:  1) everyday drops such as tools and craft ingredients; and 2) event drops.
The level of your trophies will directly impact the number of drops you get.  There are two trophies, a crop trophy and an animal trophy.
You get the trophies and upgrades in two FSQs (Farmer's Society Quests).
"Country Fair" where you donate crops.
"Farming Contest" where you donate animals.

In each quest, you donate the needed items and are rewarded a trophy or the upgrades for that trophy.  There are 14 upgrades for each trophy which gets you a maximum of 15% increase on drops per trophy.  Both trophies impact all types of drops but the crop trophy is easier to upgrade.  Full completion takes a long time.

Place the trophies on your field before you harvest.  Make sure they have had time for the game to recognize them (usually by going to another field and coming back).  Then harvest that field.  Now, pick up (delete) your trophies from that field and move them to the next field where you will repeat the process. 

Living Legend Rune
When you have reached the top of the Tree of Wisdom and have 300 stars you can open the Living Legend (LL) rune.  This rune allows you to place your trophies and all your upgrades in the rune so you never have to move them around your farm fields.  From the tree, they will impact drops on all fields.  You don't need to have completed all your upgrades to place them in the rune.
