This is how it goes

Farm B can send up to 20 gifts to farm A each day.
Farm B can also send up to 20 gifts to farm C each day. Then farm C can send those received 20 gifts to farm A the very same day.
So farm A receives 40 gifts on just one day.
And other farms can keep sending gifts to farm A.

The amount of gifts farm A can receive per day is endless. But only 20 gifts are permitted from the same sender (farm) per day

And I know this as a fact.

I've been receiving over 100 gifts on the first B&T day since forever!

Not going to say for sure, but I think T&G doesn't count towards the 20 daily gifts. It's is accordingly to my understanding a limit on receiving 20 gifts. But T&G and those autogenerated gifts (10PF when buying the biggest pack etc) are excluded.

This would also fit in with the warning when trying to send drops as a daily gift to a player that already had gotten 20 gifts. (and no, I don't send 21 gifts to one player - even my madness has it's limitation )

No there is definitely a 20 gifts from one farm to another limit. 

Of daily gifts you can only get 20 in total from all neighbors and friends. If you already have received 20 and one of your neighbors buy a big pack of PF for instance, you get the PF the next day.
