Reach for the Stars Event - 3rd to 8th

I really like the item in the box for sale. If the chance of getting the item is not too low I'll buy some. There are several players in the DE forum who'll buy the box first thing. So I'll not start the event immediately, I'll rather wait for them to post their result. If good I'll buy some, and then maybe I won't have to nuke starter seeds if I get enough from the boxes 

I wonder how many you have to buy and NOT grow any event crop at all 
Not that I would do that but the option is there.

Bought 20 boxes in total. Got: 110 lenses, 475 crops and 2 items

Items = 2 Telescopes, or Givers?

Telescopes would save you from having to grow an additional 650 crops.

Giver items. Those were what I really wanted, the other stuff was a bonus

When this happens are you getting a gateway error, or is it just the game freezing at 55%?
Or something else entirely?

I have had this happen all day...over 12 hours.

Gateway errors, site is busy, server didn't send info, and when I finally do get in, I get a popup that says there was a connection error. Or I get to the main field but can't move to any other field before the spinning flower of doom. It has taken hours to get in and harvest. Mom's got the same issues. I hope there is still time to finish....

I've had similar problems. From what I remember...these are the fixes.

If it's a gateway error, this was caused by my using auto-fill in my browser. The fix was to simply re-enter my login name and password manually.

If the site is busy, server didn't send info, connection pop-up tend to all be from a poor performance of my own internet not wanting to cooperate with their servers. A router reset has usually fixed this error.

Spinning flower of doom was usually a mixture of them and me. Mostly them. Their servers just get bogged down with so many users at times.

I hope this helps, especially the gateway error, that would happen to me and frustrate me to no end. I would always blame beeps until I found out what the real issue was.
