Solar Eclipse 2017
Anyone in the direct path of the eclipse? I'll get to see it as a partial eclipse where I'm at, but not as a total eclipse. Will still be pretty cool tho . I remember the last one.. back in '79 lol
NASA has some good info about it...

How does the man in the moon cut his hair?
Eclipse it.
Eclipse it.

Our state is in the path of the total eclipse in a town about 4 hours from here. We will just be able to see a partial one in a few hours.

The best viewing spot in the country is right over my farm in southern Illinois. Guess we should have rented out space in the fields to tourists, but was afraid they'd trample the soybeans. Gotta keep those priorities straight.

Re: Solar Eclipse 2017
In Omaha was at 97%.
I had to go out with 3 students for a minute at a time. So I couldnt enjoy it fully but it was great anyway. They all said it was the coolest thing they had ever seen!!!

Re: Solar Eclipse 2017
We had about 88% visibility here. I had to set the alarm to get up for it, lol (we had only gone to bed 4 hours before ). I watched it intermittently from my back yard until it was about 2/3 eclipsed, then went and woke up my husband, and we sat and watched it together until the sun was well on it's way to being uncovered again. It was neat, I enjoyed it.

Re: Solar Eclipse 2017
I had to drive my bus today and saw a little of the hysteria on the NASA channel.
Some students at my high school alma mater (first day of school) went outside today, for the first time since elementary school recess, to watch the eclipse.
The teachers had to force them.

Re: Solar Eclipse 2017
At a little under 90% visibility here my animals were really confused lol... as it darkened the skies everybody wanted to be fed (dinner), my donkey was braying, my horses were standing at the gate and nickering at me, goats were hollering, peacocks were calling to each other... lol . And as it faded away and got bright again my roosters were crowing like it was 5:30am and time to wake everybody up lol

Re: Solar Eclipse 2017
Too funny, GuineaUp! The pheasants outside town (we're a block away) thought it was sundown and started clucking to go to roost . And it never really got dark here, even at 88%, just cooled down and dimmed a little. I saw some of the footage on NOAA's channel of the eclipse as seen from space; it was pretty cool, like a big black ink stain spreading across the west coast.
Did any of you have trouble finding the eclipse glasses? It never even occurred to me to look for any until late last week , by which time any stores like WalMart or ShopKo were sold out. Amazon had them for like $23.00 a pair, and you could order them from eBay for roughly $150 for a 10 pack (that would get here the end of the month ), but I didn't think I'd be able to find any. Decided to try our little 'ole library on the spur of the moment after reading on NASA's website that some libraries had them, and lucked out - they'd just gotten 25 pairs, of which I was able to get 2 for free. The rest were gone by the time the library closed.

Glasses here were hard to find. The library was out...Lowes was selling them for around $2 but there was a 2 pair limit. Mom, Daughter and I shared the 2 pair among us.
It didn't get really dark here either, just dim like sundown and yes, a welcome drop in temp. The animals all around here didn't seem to respond. Certainly nothing like you describe. Wonder if they will all be back on normal schedule today?

I didn't use the glasses I just put my cell phn on selfie and could see it but it was cloudy here so eventually I could just look at it :)) oh and when I was using selfie I had my regular sun glasses on they helped dim the glare :)) but even with the clouds it was still awesome :)) I'm really happy a lot of us got to see it at least some of it :))

Re: Solar Eclipse 2017
I was in the 84% range in my location, but saw a nice crescent with glasses. Light dimmed similar to sunset. Only animals I saw were the people from my office building outside with glasses and cell phones - and we were having a great time!
